Mackey came to B.O.N.E.S. from a bad situation in central Massachusetts. He was underweight and limped painfully. X-rays revealed a displaced femur fracture in his right hind leg – it was amazing that Mackey could use the leg at all. The options didn't look hopeful, but with help from the B.O.N.E.S. Medical Director, a carefully-structured exercise program, and a lot of TLC, he can now lead a normal life.
As Mackey recovered from his injuries, long-time B.O.N.E.S. adopter John was mourning the loss of his long-time beagle companion, Hudson, whose "Chronicles" were documented here for many years. John was settling into a new job with lots of driving, and Mackey loved to ride... a great match. John and Mackey will both share their viewpoints with us on this page.
A few weeks back, my sister came east to visit family and was able to spend a weekend with Mackey and me.
Saturday afternoon, we went out for lunch and went to Waterville shopping. After breaking out the grill and cooking dinner we got down to some serious recliner rock.
This is a tradition we started about ten years ago. I play DJ and spin records from my collection that may not be in her repertoire.
It was fun to introduce her to some new artists and educate her on some of my favorite deep cuts. Music is a big part of both of our lives and it was fun to be able to share some of my collection with her.
John's sister came up for the weekend a few weeks ago. We all jumped in the pickup and went driving that afternoon. That was the best part of the weekend for me!
Later that night, they had something cooked on the grill that smelled like salmon. It sure smelled good, and I even got a little sample! I like it when people come to visit, John is guilted into feeding me the occasional scrap!
Later that night they played a lot of records, really LOUD! I was up in Judy's lap while she read me lyrics from the Rolling Stones' Sympathy for the Devil. Later, I sat with her and watched concert footage from Pink Floyd.
I guess it was all right, but what's wrong with mixing things up a little? What about Who Let the Dogs Out? How about How Much Is That Doggie In The Window? Or anything from the group Bow Wow Wow!?!?!
Sometimes John seems to think about himself instead of others. Maybe I can bring him around to my way of thinking...
That's all for now.
