Hudson, the Semi-Beagle Hudson was rescued by B.O.N.E.S. from a bad situation in Limington, ME. After the gentleman called 911 (and subsequently passed away), the local ACO found 20 dogs living in squalid conditions. B.O.N.E.S. took most of them and found them new homes. Overall, Hudson was in very good shape but when he had his physical, they found a serious mast cell tumor in his nose. As much as possible was removed. B.O.N.E.S. wanted to find a wonderful home for Hudson and we did. John is a long-haul trucker that had lost his beagle companion of 13 years. He wanted a new companion. Luckily John found Hudson (or Hudson found John). It was a wonderful match. Hudson reported in regularly, and we share his "Chronicles" on this page.

Hudson's Chronicles - February 2012 Greetings from the home front. We have been home for a week and are now getting ready for another trip.

Our first trip of 2012 was up to North Dakota, where the temps didn't even getHudson up to zero during the days and at night it was between 10 and 15 below zero. I have to shake my head when I hear about humans complaining about a cold toilet seat in the morning. Try going outside to do your business in that kind of weather with the wind blowing in your face! I'm glad John has that down comforter in the truck for those days! And no, I haven't had any accidents in a long time. Anyway, enough about me.

John loaded some trailers here in Maine going to North Dakota, so he could reload a couple of snow machines coming back to NY and VT. Well, at the last moment, the customer found somebody else to haul the machines, leaving us out in the cold. Sorry, I couldn't resist the pun. Anyway, John was able to find a load going down to sunny, warm, Charlotte, NC. He had a skidder in the area coming back to Maine, so things worked out. We were able to spend the night visiting a friend in Charlotte. It was nice to take a break and get out of the truck.

Dave invited his neighbor over and he brought Jack and Russel, his two dogs. We had a great time chasing each other around the kitchen. They are my size, unlike Brody and Lily, our neighbors, so it's easier to chase them. I won't tell you what breed Jack and Russel are, but I bet you can guess. Anyway, the next morning we loaded some tractor tires going to MA and the skidder later that afternoon. The skidder was oversize, so John had to get permits. This time, all the permits arrived, and the trip home went well...until Saturday, when we got home.

After we got home, John was going through the mail and he got the results from an oil sample from the truck. There was an internal coolant leak that showed up the last sample. This sample showed that it had gotten worse and now the bearings were starting to fail. This was cause for great concern (for John anywa). It could mean time for a complete engine overhaul, or a simple head gasket leaking. The repairs could be anywhere from 2000-3000 dollars up to 14,000-16,000 dollars for a complete overhaul. John took the truck to the dealer and got the good news that it was an injector leaking. He had all six replaced, and new bearings installed. The bill was only 3500.00 dollars, so we got lucky.

Hudson's Chronicles - February 2012We are headed out to LA with a load of ATVs and watercraft. Then to Palo Alto, CA to pick up a power transformer we took out last June from Westbrook ME. John is looking forward to testing out the motor work on the truck. It should have more power, because the truck was overdue for a tune-up, which was done as a result of the work.

I'll keep you all posted the next time.

Hudson, the semi-beagle.
