Hudson was rescued by B.O.N.E.S. from a bad situation in Limington, ME. After the gentleman called 911 (and subsequently passed away), the local ACO found 20 dogs living in squalid conditions.
B.O.N.E.S. took most of them and found them new homes. Overall, Hudson was in very good shape but when he had his physical, they found a serious mast cell tumor in his nose. As much as possible was removed.
B.O.N.E.S. wanted to find a wonderful home for Hudson and we did. John is a long-haul trucker that had lost his beagle companion of 13 years. He wanted a new companion. Luckily John found Hudson (or Hudson found John). It was a wonderful match. Hudson reported in regularly, and we share his "Chronicles" on this page.
I QUIT!!!
At least that's what I said the first time I had to wear a stupid human hat! Well, I guess there was that cheese hat I had to pose with two summers ago, when Alex was riding with us. It all started on our last trip when we stopped to visit John's aunt and uncle who live in Shrewsbury, MA
John recently had a birthday, and so they had a birthday party for him. It was a fun time with his uncle, aunt, cousin and his cousin's two sons. John's nephew Alex, who goes to college nearby, was there also. As I said, it was a fun visit, until the hats came out. John put on a birthday hat, and then put one on me. Then they started singing and brought out the cameras and cake. I didn't know that I could experience humiliation, but I did.
I'm thinking of bringing this to the attention of B.O.N.E.S. to prevent this mindless tragedy from happening to others. Well, I guess I should stop complaining and get on with the trip.
John and I had loaded four partials heading, eventually, to Florida. We first loaded a pickup truck in Port Hudsonsmouth, NH going to Florida. Then to New Bedford to pick up an ice maker going to Gainesville, GA. The next day, Lancaster, MA for some Barn doors going to Ohio, and finally, a generator in Hartford, CT going to Melbourne, FL. It was a nice trip down to Florida, and it was good to get into the warm, sunny weather. John found a partial load in Ft. Lauderdale, that was going back to Maine. It was a pair of boat cradles coming in on a ship. We had to wait two days for the ship to come in. As it turned out, the ship was a ship that transports yachts all around the world. It was incredible! The ship was open at the stern, and the yachts were floated into one of the two bays on the ship. the boats were then put on cradles, and the water pumped out of the ship. It was really neat to see. After loading the cradles, we had a roller in Savannah, GA and a sweeper in Columbia, SC to pick up.
On the way to Savannah, we stopped in Brunswick, GA to visit John's mother, who spends the winter in that area. John's sister and niece were visiting at the time, so we had a nice visit. It was a few days before St Patrick's day, and they had found an UGLY hat for John. Luckily, John remembered the birthday fiasco and left me out of the hat pictures! As bad as he looks, I can't imagine how badly I would have looked.
We headed out Thursday evening and headed up to Savannah to load the next morning. After picking up our last piece friday afternoon, we had an uneventful trip to Maine, NY, for our first delivery, Monday. We then had a delivery in Wallingford, Ct that afternoon, and finally, belfast, ME to deliver the boat cradles, Tuesday morning.
We headed home for a few days of the usual maintenance, chores and paperwork. We are heading out to Washington state on our next trip.
That's about all for now.
Hudson, the semi-beagle
