Hudson, the Semi-Beagle Hudson was rescued by B.O.N.E.S. from a bad situation in Limington, ME. After the gentleman called 911 (and subsequently passed away), the local ACO found 20 dogs living in squalid conditions. B.O.N.E.S. took most of them and found them new homes. Overall, Hudson was in very good shape but when he had his physical, they found a serious mast cell tumor in his nose. As much as possible was removed. B.O.N.E.S. wanted to find a wonderful home for Hudson and we did. John is a long-haul trucker that had lost his beagle companion of 13 years. He wanted a new companion. Luckily John found Hudson (or Hudson found John). It was a wonderful match. Hudson reported in regularly, and we share his "Chronicles" on this page.

Hudson's Chronicles - June 2012 Hello to everyone, from soggy Durham, ME. We have had 6 inches of rain since Saturday, and I'm sick and tired of having to go out in it to do my business. I wish I could figure out how to use the toilet. It seems so much easier, during the bad weather. I know how to drink out of it, but that's all I've been able to figure out. We have been pretty busy lately, and we have work lined up for the next several weeks.

Last time I checked in, John had lined up several partial loads heading out to Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. We had a sander body that was going to NASA in Las Cruces, NM. We couldn't figure that one out. I didn't realize that there were roads that needed sanding on the moon. We later found out, that the sander was for the facilities in Las Cruces. Didn't realize they got icy roads there, either. Sunday night, in Alamogordo, NM, we had a dust storm come through the truck stop. The dark clouds moved in, the wind picked up, and pretty soon, the visibility was down to Zero. The truck was shaking and rocking, and the wind was howling. I was glad we were sitting still, and not driving in it. The next morning, we delivered the sander to NASA and then headed to Tucson, where we had some structural steel to deliver.

Hudson's Chronicles - June 2012From Tucson, we headed to Sierra Vista, AZ, the next morning, to load some helium gas canisters at an army base there, that were going to Fort Benning, GA. It was a nice light load, so we had a nice easy trip. We delivered that Thursday, and went up to Atlanta to load an old Pick up truck and a dump truck, both going back to Maine. The pick up had been sitting so long, that a tree had started growing up through the rear bumper. When we got up to Fryeburg, ME, we delivered both vehicles to the same place. John's friend knows both people and has a loading dock at truckhis shop, so John unloaded the dump truck, and then, by this time, the owner of the pick up had shown up. The truck didn't run, or even have any brakes, and it was on the top deck of the trailer. Here we go again. They hooked a chain to the truck, set up some planks to the lower deck, and hooked up to a tractor. John volunteered to get into the truck and steer. I didn't really think he was that stupid, but he is! They gave a little tug with the tractor, and down came the truck. it rolled back and forth a few times before coming to rest. So far, so good. Next, the ramps were moved to the back of the trailer, where the dock was higher than the trailer. They hooked up again and towed the truck up the ramps and on to the dock. I have to say, they all looked like professionals and I was quite proud of them.

They loaded the truck onto a trailer and took it down the road to the new owners shop. Well, the guys were pretty cocky by now and John got behind the wheel again as the crowd, that had now gathered, pushed the truck off the trailer. John gave a chock block to the owner to throw under the tire to stop the truck. Well, the owner threw the block under the tire, and the truck just kept on going. Everyone just stood there and watched. Fortunately, the truck stopped before it hit the building! John said he was aiming between the building and some vehicles. I don't think there was enough room, but I kept my thoughts to myself. I was glad we made it home without anybody getting hurt or anything getting damaged.

Hudson's Chronicles - June 2012We were able to stop in Portland the Sunday before our delivery in Fryeburg, to help out at the B.O.N.E.S. booth at the rock the park event. We had a lot of fun there and helped spread the word of our cause. John seemed to get annoyed at me throughout the day for barking all the time. He doesn't have a clue, does he? I was the official B.O.N.E.S barker! What better way to get the word out! It was a beautiful day, and there was a good turnout at the park. I was pretty wiped out by the end of the day, and I slept well that night.

I guess that about covers it for now.

Hudson, the semi-beagle.
