Hudson was rescued by B.O.N.E.S. from a bad situation in Limington, ME. After the gentleman called 911 (and subsequently passed away), the local ACO found 20 dogs living in squalid conditions.
B.O.N.E.S. took most of them and found them new homes. Overall, Hudson was in very good shape but when he had his physical, they found a serious mast cell tumor in his nose. As much as possible was removed.
B.O.N.E.S. wanted to find a wonderful home for Hudson and we did. John is a long-haul trucker that had lost his beagle companion of 13 years. He wanted a new companion. Luckily John found Hudson (or Hudson found John). It was a wonderful match. Hudson reported in regularly, and we share his "Chronicles" on this page.
Good morning from Durham, ME. John and I returned from a trip out to California, and are getting caught up on things here at home. This trip was a whole lot better than the last one where we lost the engine. I don't know why John says he lost the engine, I knew where it was the whole time. I guess it's just one of those human things. Anyway, we made it home with the freshly rebuilt motor, and everything seems to be working fine.
Our next trip out west was a great one! We had a piece of snow making equipment loading in NY going to Park City UT. John found three pizza ovens in Boston going to Aspen, CO and we also had a couple things going to LA. It was a beautiful trip, seeing Aspen, Park City, and all the beautiful fall colors and back roads taken between the stops. On the way out, we were going through St Louis, MO when John found out that the drag races were in town. We had extra time, so this was one of those times where everything worked out so we could take a day and go to the races. The track was across the street from the truck stop, which was even better. It was a fun afternoon, and we were able to have dinner with John's niece, who goes to school in St Louis.
Then, it was off to Aspen, with a stop in Denver to have lunch with John's nephew who goes to school in Denver. It sure is nice to be able to stop and visit relatives occasionally. It gets tiresome spending so much time with him. The jokes are getting old. Once we unloaded in Park City, John found a excavator in Logan, UT going down to LA. It's always a bonus to be able to find something to fill the space just made available. This doesn't happen very often. The machine ended up being oversize, so we had to take an extra day to get the permits. We stopped in a truck stop in St George, UT to get to Arizona permit, and while we were waiting for the permit, got to see a fight in the parking lot. One trucker was adjusting his axle weight and was temporarily blocking another trucker who started honking and yelling. From there it got worse. Next thing, the two "children" were nose to nose in the middle of the parking lot yelling and poking each other. Well, poke turns to shove turns into girlie slap/punch. As quickly as it started the two "children" backed down and went their separate ways. It reminded me of all the stupid reality tv shows that seem to be taking over the world. I won 't get started on that topic.
John and I made it down to LA and made all of our deliveries. John found some machinery in LA that was going back to NH. It was supposed to be ready on Friday, but there were some delays so it wasn't going to be ready until Saturday. Saturday morning, we were going for a walk and John saw a kid on a corner holding a sign. The sign said car wash, 5 dollars. Sure enough, a few blocks down was a church group having a charity car wash. when we got back to the truck, we turned the thing around and headed over to the car wash. When the kids saw the truck, they got al excited and started pointing to the car wash. They went ballistic when they saw the turn signal come on and saw us turn into the driveway. It was so much fun watching the kids excitement as they tried to figure how to wash a truck. They did a great job and John gave them a huge tip.
We got loaded later in the day and headed to Phoenix, where we had a truck body to pick up going back to Worcester, MA. Even though John loves this part of the country, I can't share his enthusiasm. Simply put, have you ever tried to poop in cactus? enough said.
The trip home was uneventful and we were able to spend the weekend in Kittery with John's mom. I always enjoy visiting. Even though I'm not allowed on the furniture, I get to clean her dinner plate and she always saves a little ice cream for me. Monday, we made out two remaining deliveries in Kittery and Portland and have been home the rest of the week. John had some broken teeth (no, he wasn't in any fights) to be taken care of and the usual repairs and chores around the house. Next week we are headed to Michigan to get some snow guns that have been repaired and need to go back to the ski area in MA for the upcoming season.
I hope the bash went well this year. We were both disappointed that we couldn't make it this year and see everyone. I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later. We both look forward to making it next year.
That's it for now.
Hudson, the semi-beagle
