It has been only 4 weeks since we brought Missy home with us but it feels like she's been part of the family since we moved to our new home, just 6 months ago. Missy will be 9 years old next month, and the only tell-"tail" sign of her chronological age is her graying muzzle. Otherwise she is young at heart, full of personality, well-mannered, superb at snuggling (and napping) and an all-around wonderful companion. We have all been adjusting to each other; 1 beagle (Missy), 2 cats (Bogie & Snowflake) and 2 humans (Chuck and me). There have been some bumps in trying to create a schedule/routine (where none existed!) but we are making it up as we go along and are having fun doing so. Missy has shown no interest in the resident cats except when her food/water boundary is crossed; nothing more notable has happened than minor outbursts of hisses and growls. As far as exercise, Missy walks extremely well on her lead and is a pleasure to take for 'walkies'. We usually log-in 2-3 miles each day. The whole dog park 'scene' is quite new to Missy and to us, also, but she has taken to it with her inimitable spirit and on her terms. She is quite content to explore the periphery of the park away from the 'action', and will socialize at her own pace. A comical part of the dog park visit is when the other (often the bigger and younger) dogs start getting rambunctious and go into what I call 'hyper-play' mode. Apparently she is not fond of the rough-housing and will circle the 'action' and will try to play 'referee' with her aroooo-ing. It is quite a funny sight! Go Missy!
Sometimes it seems like she is missing her pack of her 2 'foster-brother' beagles, but conversely it seems like she is enjoying the undivided attention. Missy is a dog that needs direction and reassurance, which we are learning to give in abundance, that in turn give her confidence and security. She is simply a gem of a beagle and being first-time beagle owners, we are lucky and blessed to have found Missy.
