Chaos - A Beagle in Need

Chaos Chaos Chaos

My name is Chaos, and I am young beagle, with a sad but true tale to tell. If Beagles of New England States (B.O.N.E.S.) had not reached out to the Northborough Animal Control officer when they heard about my plight, I have no idea where I would be right now.

B.O.N.E.S. does not turn away any of us beagles that need medical help and a new loving home, no matter how sick or old we are. B.O.N.E.S. knew this was going to be a very expensive medical bill but that's the organization's mission—to help beagles in need and I am a poor beagle in need!

Here is my story..

On April 3, I was hit by a car in Northborough, Massachusetts, and taken by a nice lady from the Northborough Animal Control Office (ACO) to the Emergency Department of the Foster Hospital for Small Animals at the Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. Upon arrival, the wonderful staff took an x-ray to help evaluate my injuries and worked to stabilize me as well as control my pain. During this time I was on a seven day hold while the ACO looked for my owner.

In the meantime, B.O.N.E.S. heard about my situation and reached out to the ACO's office letting them know that B.O.N.E.S. would be happy to take responsibility for me and my medical expenses should my owner not come forward.

On April 10th, I was transferred to B.O.N.E.S. where my new life would begin!!

After reviewing my x-rays, it was determined that I had significant injuries, primarily in my pelvic area as well as internal bleeding. To identify the extent of my injuries, I had to have another x-ray and then a CT scan. The CT scan confirmed that I had hip fractures and a partially crushed pelvis.

On Friday April 11, I underwent successful orthopedic surgery to fix my pelvic issues and start me on the road to recovery. However, when they did the lab work prior to my surgery, I tested positive for Heartworm, Lyme, Anaplasmosis and hookworm! The good news is that I started treatment to resolve all these other issues. I am currently resting comfortably and eating like a typical beagle.

Once I am discharged, I will be living with an experienced and loving foster family who will help me finish my recovery. This recovery process is going to take a very long time. I will need to go through extensive physical therapy and have additional x-rays to evaluate how well I am recovering. I also need to be neutered.

When I am fully recovered from my injuries and my illnesses, I will be "Ready for Adoption" through the B.O.N.E.S. regular application and adoption process.

By the way—did I tell you that the cost of my medical expenses is expected to reach close to $9,000? Can you please help with my medical costs?

B.O.N.E.S. counts on the many donations from people like you to help fund the medical care of all the beagles like me who are brought into their program.

Thank you for reading my story. Look for updates as I start my healing process.
