Lost Ret Recovery Checklist

1. Don't Panic! Stop and think of places your dog might wander to in the neighborhood and possibly beyond.
Begin search immediately-asking neighbors, children, people on the street if they have seen your dog. Ask your neighbors to check their sheds, under their porches, boat tarps, garages and ask them to check every day.

2. Contact all local animal shelters, rescue organizations, animal control agencies and city pounds. Leave a flyer with picture with a brief detailed description of the dog including color of collar, if the collar has id tags and what kind of tags. Give two phone contact numbers such as home, work or cell or a friend's phone numbers. On the flyer be sure to print LOST and REWARD (if offered) in large letters. Do not state how much the reward will be. Place the flyer in a plastic insert if you are posting the flyer outside.

3. Contact all veterinary clinics, pet groomers, pet stores, boarding kennels and professional pet sitters in your area. Hang a poster or picture. Place posters in high traffic area, convenience stores, pizza parlors, bus stops, etc.

4.Contact any lost and found pet services (listed in yellow pages or internet).

5. Contact your local TV cable company sometimes they provide lost pet services.

6. Place an ad in all the local newspapers.

7. Pass flyers out to the postmen, deliverymen, and sanitation engineers.

8. Check with your local street department or local highway department to see if they have picked up a deceased pet that might fit your missing pet's description. (We realize that is a hard thing to do but it is better to know what has happened to your pet.)

9. Be sure to keep a record of all your calls with the time and date so if the search continues for days, you will know who you have called.

10. Never Give Up!
