We love to hear from stories from our adopters!
Each one of these beagles touches our lives in a special way -

COOPER

It was nice to finally meet you at Borders Books.  We just got our
computer hooked up so I wanted to update you on Cooper and also included some pictures of Christmas, some of his favorite toys, at play, and of course his favorite places to sleep.  He is a great dog and adjusted well soon as we brought him home, he's playful, lovable, and very smart. Cooper enjoyed the past summer going for long walks through the woods in back of  our house and at the many parks in the area.  He also enjoyed evening boat rides on the warm summer nights watching the sun go down,  he has also rode on the jet ski, he hates it when I make him wear his life jacket.

I have just completed the first course of  the Pet Assisted Therapy at
CCRI and  Cooper was recently temperament tested and passed with flying colors.  I  started the second course the end of January, Coopers training starts Monday  night the 9th which consists of obedience training and getting the pets use to various situations they may encounter at nursing homes, schools and rehab centers.  I am sure Cooper  will be wonderful at it as he loves everyone he meets and vise versa. Cooper is very active and playful he loves to rough house with the teenage boys in the family, but seems to know that he can not be as rough with the younger children or elderly folks. Cooper loves little kids, I am not sure  if it's there height because as soon as he meets up with them it is a "Beagle Bath" for all and  the kids think that they are being covered in liquid gold.

Cooper also enjoys going to his private day care two or three times a
week, where he has a big fenced in yard to play with his three best friends, Brandy, Cleo, and Buddy.  I pick him up after work and some days he is so tired as soon as he gets home he snuggles in bed and you don't see him the  rest of the night.
Cooper certainly is an adoption success story, I can't even imagine life  without him, he is our little "fur" person, happy and loved in his forever home.  I can not thank everyone enough for him, so please pass this on to Leanne  and Amy.
Hope to hear more B.O.N.E.S updates soon.  Liz

BELLE

Just wanted to let you know that Belle is adjusting beautifully. She
and Black Jack get along very well and play together a lot. Last night
she slept with us the whole night. She's been very good on walks but it took her a few times going on the carpet to get that birdseed out of her system :) Perhaps we can get the beagles together next weekend.

HENRY
Henry is wonderful!!! We still call him Henry or Henry Jones when a middle name is necessary. Carol, the kids and myself all adore him. He is as sweet as can be. My wife who always made faces when I told her as a youth I always had a dog in my bed is now trying to convince me to let him sleep with us rather than in his crate (eventually I think I'll have to give in.) My children have exceeded what we expected of them in helping with his care. We never have to ask a second time or hear "it's not my turn." When we were told that beagles live to eat, we thought it was an exaggeration. Henry can not be stopped if he thinks he might get food. He jumps and tries to take food off the counter (he can jump very high). He also gets up on the dinner table from time to time. We are working on breaking him of these habits. So far, the only damage in this department is that twice he found, opened and inhaled a whole loaf of bread. All in all, we adore Henry and are very happy he is part of our family.
Sincerely, Michael

DULCE

Dulce is doing absolutely fabulous!! We are so proud of how well she has adjusted to her new home! We have been really surprised at how well she adapted to her kennel and going to the bathroom outside. The kids absolutely love her to pieces! As Dulce loves them as well. My husband however has had a hard time adapting to a puppy that chews on everything they can get their choppers on!  :o) He is learning the hard way about picking up after himself!! Hahahahahaha!! We love her so much! She has pretty much doubled in size. We have a friend who has a very small dog, Dulce shows her who is boss by barking and taunting her! It is so funny to watch! Dulce has definitely made this her home with us, and  we are very pleased with everything about her! She could use some work on the morning kisses though, maybe a little less nibbling :o).

I would send you photos of her, unfortunately though we don't have a digital camera in our home as of yet. I am working on that, trying to catch up to this ever changing world. As soon as I do, I will forward pictures of Dulce on to you!
 Sincerely,
Dorothy, Doug, Dylan, Taylor, and Dulce :o)

NIKKI

Hi...here is an update from my new forever home. I have been here for one week with my new mommy and daddy and did I mention that I have a beagle brother and 2 beagle sisters. I even have a kitty brother and sister. I was very nervous and confused my first couple of days here and stayed on a doggie bed in the kitchen. There is an island in my new kitchen and it took me until 2 days ago to make my way to the other side...now I go there all the time when my mommy cooks. I like cooked carrots...had my first one today. At night I sleep in this real big bed. My mom calls it a king size...I say it's fit for a queen...that's me. I have really come out of my shell the past couple of days playing with my beagle siblings. My mom says that I am a little spark plug. At night I run and jump onto that bed made for a queen, then I turn around and jump off. I do this a few times and try playing with Milo whose doggie bed is on the floor at the foot of our bed. I have also found out that I like belly rubs from either mommy or daddy at night just before bed. My poor mommy ends up with all 3 of us beagle girls sleeping next to her at night...but I don't think she minds at all.
I have only had a few accidents in the house. My mommy is showing me where to go outside and I am catching on very quickly. I have picked one spot that I like and go right away every time I am taken out. Today was my first vet appointment and I had my stitches out from my spay. Everyone was really nice to me there. I was very nervous and hid under the chair in what everyone calls the waiting room but I was on my best behavior...not one peep through my examination. They even offered me a cookie. I even heard the doctor say to my mommy...God Bless you for loving these beagles so much and you will be the perfect home for Nikki.
Thank you to B.O.N.E.S for rescuing me....I have found my perfect home and I think I might even LOVE it here.
Miss Nikki :o)
P.S. My mom attached a couple of pictures for you.

BELLE

Things are going wonderful with Belle.  Ted and I couldn't be happier.  She has settled in quite comfortably in our home and seems very happy.  We absolutely adore her.  She had a few accidents in the first couple of weeks, but nothing in the past three.  I think we had trouble picking up on her clues that she needed to go out because she doesn't' bark at all.  We also started to crate train her and she's already picked up that and loves her crate.  We took her to her first Vet appointment three weeks ago and she had an ear infection and ring worm.  She has already finished her medication for both.  We're going to ensure that we give her proper ear care on a regular basis to avoid further ear infections as she was pretty uncomfortable.  Other than that, the vet went well.  She goes back next week for a follow up.  We also start our Beginner Obedience Training next week at Especially for Pets in Westborough.  Even though Belle is crate trained, house trained and can sit, she will learn to stay, lay down and walk appropriately on a leash.  I thought it would be a good bonding experience for us, as well.  So, thanks to BONES we have added a wonderful little Beagle to our family and are very happy.  E-mail us anytime for updates.

RALPHY

Commander is doing great. He seems to be okay in the crate during the day. We go out for a walk in the am for 20-25 min depending on how cold it is. The dog walker then comes at 3. He is out with her for 45min.. We arrive home at 630 and he is excited for us to be home. We have play time in the yard for 10-15 min. We walk again before bed for 20-30 min. He loves his walks and is learning to walk with me and responds well to commands such as come and no.

I monitor his crate for any signs of anxiety. He as not eliminated in his crate or the house. There are no signs of chewing on his bed or blanket. He gets chew toys when he is put into his crate. He seems to be satisfied with his physical activity. He will go into his crate at night when its time for bed without any hesitation.

Commander's ears are better.  He has a healthy appetite and lucky for us he likes carrots for treats. Next I will try green beans. I would like to be able to give him healthy snacks as well as liver treats, bones, et. His teeth look great and I will try in the next week to brush them. He is very gentle and allows me to care for him without any aggression or running away.  He is very social, therefore I do not think he was in a lab or clinic setting.  We are going to basic training on Sun. I am very excited to see his potential. He will love being able to freely play with the other dogs. I will keep you posted with his progress. We just LOVE him, every day he does something new and funny.
Have a great weekend.
Tricia, Ray, & Commander

GABBY

Gabby is my second beagle. I thought we had the most wonderful beagle in Fred, our first one. Fred died in January 04. I thought I would never replace Fred or love another dog quite the same way. People suggested I try another breed because my expectations would be so high. I am glad I didn't. Gabby is as sweet, lovable and gentle as Fred was, if not more so. After receiving all the e-mail pictures and descriptions it was hard to choose among the beagles. Gabby, however, just spoke out to me. She was happy to go home with us even though she was leaving a nice family with children and another dog. She had a small history of house training issues, but there has been no problem at all. We all agree that she has a sweet disposition and is a happy dog. Thanks to all of the people at B.O.N.E.S for your time and guidance. I have already recommended you to several other people. Barbara
