ALEX
I
am Keeping Alex but we've renamed him Lucky, he rarely responded
to Alex, but does to Lucky! Today I took him to the groomers
to have a bath, and his nails cut and his ears cleaned. The
groomer said he did very well but hated the kennel. That's
my boy. I've weaned him off his old type of food and put him
on a new formula, he likes it, and has yet to get sick from
it. On Wednesday I'll be taking him to a local vet, to see
if Lucky likes him or her. Lucky is very happy, he sleeps
through the night and loves to wake up and go for walks! I
love Lucky, he's my little Christmas Miracle :)
Have a great Holiday season.

MOLLY
We have had Molly for about two months now.
We started her out in her kennel, but that quickly faded since
she is such a well behaved little girl. She does love to go
in her kennel and rest, and it is certainly her safe place
when she is frightened. She is particularly afraid of
the vacuum. Although it took some time, she finally started
to come out of her shell. She loves to play with all her new
toys, and especially loves a rowdy game of tug-of-war.
She now expects play time for a while after her morning walks.
Happily she has adapted to her brother (Theo) and her cats
and ferret. She cuddles with the cats on a cold evening
- well, they cuddle with her anyway, she just sleeps through
it. The ferret was a challenge because she just thought
he was a walking squeak toy - he squeaks all right, but we
don't really want her chewing on him, so we had to teach her
how to be polite with her weasel friends. One of the first
tricks that she learned when moving into our house was to
get under the covers to sleep. If someone is in bed,
you can bet she is right there beside them under the covers.
We were a bit concerned about her first winter in Maine, since
she was a snow bird. Unfortunately her first experience
with snow was a two foot storm. She did well until the
snow got past her shoulders. Then it wasn't any fun
anymore and she flat out refused to go
outside! She finally adjusted, but I did knit her a
snazzy sweater - at least she won't get lost in the snow drifts
with it on.
We are thrilled with the addition of her to
our family. She is such a sweet,
wonderful, well behaved girl, that I cannot believe that someone
actually gave her up. Everyone who meets her loves her,
especially our neighbor kids. We are starting doggy
school next week and I am excited to refine her manners and
leash training. Overall, I could not have asked for
a better dog, or a better experience with a rescue organization.
I am constantly singing the praises of this organization and
the individuals that I have worked with. Thank you for
our girl and for making this a pleasant experience.
Sincerely,
Gretchen (and Mike )
COLE
Hi!
Cole is a wonderful beagle boy!! We love him to pieces! He
is affectionate and calm. He loves the fenced yard with all
it's odors. He settled in very well the first night. No crying
or feet chewing so far. He is fine with the cats and Katie
the greyhound too. He even let her play with him yesterday.
He chases me all over the yard then I chase him. Those 5 pounds
will be coming off quick if we run around like that every
day. Katie is a little rough with him outside and he had to
put her in her place. They are working it out themselves.
The only "bad" thing about him is every time I turn my back
he's on the bed. At night he sleeps just fine on the floor
next to Chuck's side of the bed. I still have never heard
him bark! I did have to reduce the size of the cat door, he
fit through just fine nearly scaring me out of my wits while
cleaning cat boxes Monday morning. He went to the vet for
a checkup this morning. He is in great health. Next week he
goes for a booster and after he has settled in a few more
weeks he'll get his teeth cleaned. The vet said he probably
has never had his teeth cleaned. He was very well behaved
through the whole thing. Thank you again for everything you
did for Cole and us too! We'll take very good care of him.
Sincerely, Penny
WILLY
Hi Everyone,
I
know you’ve all been wondering about me so here’s a quick
update. I’ve been with my new dad for almost three months
now. When I met him, I was still pretty easily scared of lots
of things, even my own water bowl that made weird sounds!
I still am startled easily, but not so much by normal things
around the house, where I have made myself at home.
I usually hang out on the bed, and like to dig up the covers
to make myself the most comfortable.
When
I first was left alone, I was so worried that my dad wouldn’t
come back so I chewed on anything near the door. When
my dad put up a gate to keep me in the bedroom, I chewed most
of that too, but I didn’t get through. When I was able
to get near the doorway, I even chewed on the doorframe—I
wanted to get out and find my dad! After a couple of
weeks, I realized that him leaving was pretty routine and
he’d come back for me when it got dark. When it started
getting darker earlier, he put a light on a timer for me so
I wouldn’t be too afraid. I now chew on the things I
realized were for me, like my stuffed animal toys, rawhide
bones, and Nylabones. Although I have to be honest,
I did chew my Lupine collar and my dad has to take advantage
of their lifetime “even if chewed” guarantee. I also
chomped on something called a cell phone—I don’t really know
what one of those is, but my dad was pretty unhappy that I
did that. Lately I have liked playing a little tug of
war with this new rope toy that he got me, but mostly if I’m
not gnawing on a bone I really like tearing apart stuffed
doggie toys. When my dad gets home I am so excited!
And when he leaves again for a couple minutes to get the laundry
or take out the trash I am so upset and start barking for
him to come back. He does and I get very jumpy and try
to roll over while I’m standing up. My dad thinks it’s
pretty funny. I have been eating normally—I gained back some
weight so I don’t look so scrawny! I still don’t quite
fit into my coats that my dad got me for Christmas though.
The yellow raincoat fits pretty well, but the winter coat
is kind of puffy. I don’t like wearing that one, and
I especially don’t like wearing my boots, but sometimes my
dad says that I have to wear them so all the salt doesn’t
get stuck in my feet when we go out for a walk in the snow.
He still has to keep me on a leash, but I’m not as apt to
run that quickly as I used to be. We haven’t had a lot
of time to practice commands outside because it’s winter and
I’d rather be inside curled up, and so would my dad I think.
He says in the spring we will be working on something called
obedience training. I don’t know what that is but I
hope it involves liver treats. Anyway, I included a couple
pictures of me from Christmas. I’m still cute!
:-)
Thanks for finding me a good home and happy
new year,
Bailey

BLOSSOM
Blossom,
now known as Salty, has adjusted wonderfully.
She is the darling of the neighborhood. She is getting
plenty of exercise and attention. She is such a good
dog. Having a well behaved dog is much easier than I
expected. You can rest assured that she is in a good
home. I wish to extend my thanks to you and your organization.
We could not have asked for a better match. We
are letting others know of your group. Mary
PS I apologize for the delayed response.
There hasn't been much time for E-mail.
ELLIE
I have had my first Christmas. Boy! Everything
was so different that morning. Those
stockings that were hung that held my interest were now all
filled with all kinds of things and I had a real good time
exploring mine with chews, toys, snacks, a new collar, and
a sweater. Then I watched and helped everyone else with theirs.
I am seven months old now and on my new collar I have jingle
tags I like to try to bite but am told no because it is my
license, name, and rabies tag. This is to help me if I ever
got out and lost. My idea is that they know what I am up to
because of the jingle. I am very happy and love my home and
my parents are real nice even though I tried to train them
I think it somehow reversed but that's okay. Think I will
stay for life because they always hug me and kiss me and say
we would not know what we would do without you in our lives.
Thanks for finding me my people home with them. They are keepers.
My parents will keep you updated. Hope it is all good reports.
Thank you from your beagle girl, Emma
GLORY
Hi I'm Dory! You may remember me as Glory from
the website. I was adopted on December 5, 2003 by Jonathan
and Patti Comeau. They gave me a great new home with a big
backyard to play in. Its been a month since I moved in with
them and I've been very busy. I met my new doctor, had a bath,
and went to PetCo for cookies! I have a roommate named Smokey
- he's the cat. He likes to play with my toys and follow me
around when I'm in the yard. I have 2 cousins named Lana and
Howard. We get together on weekends and holidays even though
I'm not too fond of boys. I love to go for car rides,
sniff the trash, jump on the kitchen table, get a belly rub
and take naps! I love my new home....Thank you B.O.N.E.S.
and all the volunteers who helped me find it!
TOBY
As
you no doubt guessed from the article, Kobe is the center
of our lives. I can assure you
that not only has he settled in, he is the Prince
of our house, Prince of our extended family and Prince of
our neighborhood. He continues
to be well-mannered, well-behaved and oh-so-friendly.
Since he is spoiled rotten nonstop I sort of expected
him to turn into a monster but he still respects
us at the same time he laps up all the attention. He
has acquired a base of fans that rivals a movie star - everyone
wants to see Kobe, invite him to their homes, hand him treats
on our neighborhood walks, etc. We have also found a
couple of New England inns that welcome dogs and he has become
a seasoned traveler with us. The backseat of the car
is his and he isn't particularly pleased
if you back out of the driveway without him.
The ONLY complaint is the winter weather in
New England this year. It has been extremely cold and
stormy so that we can't take the long walks we all love.
In the nice months Kobe and I will go for hour long walks
a couple of times a day. We both love the outdoors and
exercise and it keeps the pounds off since both beagle and
master love to eat. We did fence in our backyard so
at least Kobe has some space to stretch his legs and God help
those poor squirrels.
Keep up the good work at BonesBeagles.
I check out the website regularly and
we made a donation around the holidays in hopes that you folks
continue your efforts. Kobe is our pride and joy - may
others benefit from your good work like we have.
Take care, Helene & Martin
CJ
Hi
. just wanted to give the both of you a quick update on CJ.
We are just having a ball with him. He is the best. We went
to the vet yesterday and he was the best behaved dog in the
waiting area. We are now a high tech dog, we had our chip
installed. We also had the Lyme Vaccine shot. CJ seems to
be completely over his cold, his lungs were clear and heart
sounds great. We start heart worm at the end of the month.
Everything going well, will send you Photo's this weekend.
Tracy I will get a kennel this weekend and will contact you
to return yours. Thanks Mike
IVY
Hi
- she is a delight - so playful, silly and most at home!
She and my other dog play a lot and everyone adores her.
She is a wonderful pet! Please tell the lab that these
dogs make great family pets and should go to loving families
- they will flourish. Training is going very well -
very few accidents - think she's getting the schedule down.
Nothing but good things to say about her.
Hope all is well with
you -- let's keep in touch! Patty
